Work Experience for Childcare QQI Level 5 Online via Zoom
QQI will be deactivating 5M2009 Early Childhood Care and Education Major Award in December 2023. The current Level 5 Major Award will be replaced with 5M21473 Advanced Certificate in Early Learning and Care.
We are busily working to create the new curriculum so we can offer it to you in the near future. If you already have 60 credits or more towards the current Major Award, you can complete the current Major Award, but you must have all modules completed and with QQI for certification by 12th December 2023.
Each module takes approx 40 – 150 hours to complete – depending on your previous knowledge and ability.
If you have less than 60 credits completed, you could start with the current modules that will be transferable to the new curriculum.

- Examine work organisations and personal career opportunities in a particular vocational area, to include consideration of work-related issues and needs,
- Analyse key challenges and opportunities facing a particular vocational area,
- Summarise the basic rights and responsibilities of employees and employers in a particular work, organisational or institutional context, to include health, safety and welfare at work, equality legislation, union representation and regulations relating to pay,
- Compile a personal and vocational skills audit and career plan for a specific vocational area, to include goals and action points for the period of work experience,
- Present relevant work experience material, to include a CV or personal statement, letter of application, evidence of job-finding skills, skills checklist, statement of learning goals, contractual arrangements,
- Participate effectively in work experience, to include observation of good timekeeping, working independently while under general direction, meeting deadlines, personal presentation, communication, adherence to health, safety and other relevant regulations,
- Demonstrate effective communications skills in the workplace, to include personal, interpersonal and technological communications skills,
- Reflect on workplace experiences, to include feedback by supervisors or mentors on personal performance and challenges such as conflict, criticism, meeting new people and learning in relation to quality management,
- Explore options for future education, training and employment in light of work experience.
Assessment
This course is assessed in the following ways:
- Collection of Work 60%
- Skills Demonstration 40%

These include opportunities for discussion and feedback, and opportunities to bring up areas that need further assistance or support. They also offer additional education and learning activities, assessment support, opportunities to submit drafts, and meetings before or after class to answer queries that cannot be covered in the session (by appointment).

Carear Path | This course leads to a Level 5 award on the National Framework of Qualifications. Students who successfully complete this programme may use their credits towards completing a higher level of study in the area of Childcare. Students who successfully complete this Major Award can use the Certificate as the basis for entry into selected courses in Third Level Colleges and Universities. |
