Life Under the Sea – Supporting Children’s STEAM Concepts
Course Details
If you are interested in extending your knowledge of early childhood education to STEAM, then this module will support you to build awareness among children of life under the sea through storying and role play.
Overview
The focus of this module is to consider how the early childhood practitioner can support the child’s understanding of life under the sea. Consideration is given to how the setting can introduce the topic at an age appropriate level, and to recognise the concepts of STEAM which are embedded in this learning process.
As practitioners and parents we are best placed to help children develop an awareness of the importance of environmental issues, organisms and life under the sea, pollution and the impact of same on living creatures, swimming, floating etc. Practitioners will be encouraged to consider how best to raise awareness around topics such as what is an ocean, life under the sea, and how this life survives, breaths, feeds etc. With consideration given to the different concepts of STEAM such as science, but also to encourage engagement with STEAM resources, to help enhance and expand on the knowledge and awareness of the topic within the classroom.
